My day started out just like any other day, with a long to do list to get done. Rush, rush, rush. Getting everything on my list checked off one by one. Everything was going great, until I realized I had lost my tax refund check I was going to deposit. My day came to a standstill and all that mattered was finding that check.
What did I do?
I went through my entire house looking for it; you know the type of looking where you take everything out and look EVERYWHERE! Defeat starts to set in. I feel like I will never find my check and should prepare myself to accept my loss. That day, God reminded me of Jesus’ parable of the woman with her lost coin. I had never understood how important that coin was to this woman until today.
“Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?” (Luke 15:8)
Coins don’t have much value these days unless it is rare, but they say that this coin she lost was what your earned for a full day’s work! Could you imagine losing what you earned in a day? I can. She searched every nook and cranny with her lit lamp. And it says that when she found it she rejoiced.
Do you know what the best part is?
When she finds her coin, she gets in touch with all her friends and neighbors to rejoice. I always thought that would be an odd party to be invited to, but now it makes sense. When I finally found my check, I wanted to tell everybody that I found it. I was overjoyed. In the same way, God is full of joy when one of his lost children are found.
I know what you are going to say…
If you are like me, you feel this parable is for the truly lost people. Right? I don’t think this is what Jesus was only trying to say.
Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”
Daily we are falling short, but through repentance we are forgiven. We are a treasure God is searching to find. He has his lamp lit and ready to find you. When he finds us stuck in the dirt, he will make us shiny and new. Then, he calls all of his angels to rejoice, what a party that must be.
I felt like having a party the day I found my check, I would love for you to comment about a time you lost something and searched for high and low.
Are you feeling lost, forgotten, or even abandoned today?
