Coffee For Your Heart Devotional Review

How is your morning going so far? I have to confess my mornings are normally pretty hectic. I have to be intentional to get devotional time before starting my day.

The best way to do this is to grab a cup of coffee or tea, your Bible, and possibly a devotional book.

If you are having a little trouble jump starting your quiet time with the Lord, I found an encouraging devotional you will enjoy.

Holley Gerth wrote a 40 day devotional for women named Coffee For Your Heart, which I have been enjoying! Her book was previously published as God’s Heart for You.

Each day she starts with a Bible verse. Then, she has four other parts to each day.

  • Devotional: She shares a little story that helps you understand how the verse can be seen in your life.
  • Reflect: This is my favorite part. She has three questions for you to dig deeper and connect what you learned to your present struggles.
  • Respond: Prayer is an important part of our daily quiet time with God, and Holley includes a daily prayer prompt which is helpful.
  • Remember: Holley ends with a short review of the day. Some of them are really nice to maybe put on your refrigerator as a reminder for the day or even week.

How is it different?

You can find many devotional books, but Holley has written a book that is very personable. When you read it, it feels like you are listening to a friend sharing lessons she has learned. If you are looking for a deep study into the Bible, this is not a Bible study. Her book helps you apply the Bible to your life.

I really enjoy this book because it only takes about 10 minutes to finish the day. If you are struggling with feeling like a failure, you need to read Chapter Three “Forgiven.”

    1. I have that problem too. This devotional has me wanting to keep reading even when the day is done. If you can, I always check a sample first to see if I like what I see.

  1. I like devotional books some of the time. Ill check it out. Last year I read through the Bible in a year with The Bible Project and it was AMAZING. If you haven’t fine it I strongly suggest it! So good.

    1. I always have trouble finishing the Bible in a year. I tend to stop after a month or two. Although last year I was able to read the Bible with a 100 day plan. I want to try a year plan again now, thank you for the suggestion.
