Who am I?
This is the year that all my children went back to school. When your children have been your identity for so long, it is easy to feel a little lost. So now what?
I have been on a journey to figure this out myself. We are all different, and our stories are unique, so it starts all the way back from the beginning. A popular verse to quote is Jeremiah 1:4-6
“The word of the Lord came to me, saying,
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.
“Ah Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am only a child.”
I heard this verse multiple times and imagined me as an unborn baby and how much God loved me. But that is not what God was saying. He said BEFORE. God was standing in front of a blank canvas and could see the masterpiece he would create in us. Not only that, God has set us apart; he has a plan for our lives.
Maybe you have heard it all before. God made you special, but what does that really mean. I had an opportunity to go to a paint night with some friends. Basically it is a class where they take you step by step through creating a painting. My talent includes stick figures, but what I created hangs on my wall. That is how God feels about us, he is so proud of his creation.
In verse 4 Jeremiah writes that the word of the Lord came to him. Could you imagine? God tells him he has something special planned for him; he will be a prophet. I am sure that overwhelmed him, but isn’t that how we react to God’s word in our lives.
Have you been living uncertain of your identity? I have a great way to reconnect with ourselves. I wrote my name in the middle of a piece of paper with Jeremiah 1:5 and around it wrote how God has set me apart. You can get a free copy below!
