Make Summer Fun this Year

Time for some summer fun!

Summer is finally here!  We live in Minnesota, so after a long winter, we welcome it with enthusiasm. There is so many things you can do all summer long, but it is easy to fall into a rut. Summer makes me think of parks, beaches, swimming, bonfires, camping. Today is our first day of summer, but so far it hasn’t started well. So far summer has consisted of me trying to clean and getting frustrated at my children. I feel like a complete summer failure.

Do you feel like you spend the entire day fighting with your children, when you would prefer to have fun and truly enjoy your summer? I do. Ideas are hard to come by for summer that are easy for kids and allow adults to get stuff done.

After spending all school year with a schedule, my children are having trouble adjusting to all the extra freedom. So, I turned to Pinterest to find activities for this summer.

100 Free Summer Activities For Kids

A great list for summer activities that includes the printable version. I am planning to hang this where my children can see it so they know where to find activities when they are bored!

Summer Bucket Lists

Bucket lists are the best!

Pinterest is full of summer bucket lists for your family. You can look for ideas to create your own or even use their list for your family. Take a day to find a match for your family.

The Digital Beast

Does your family struggle with the digital beast like we do? I feel like I spend the entire day telling my children “No” to anything digital. At times I just give in and let them watch TV, but feel so guilty. There are tons of activities to do without their electronics, but I have a hard time to come up with new activities in the moment.

Your Modern Family has a great list of 60 screen free activities your children when they are begging to watch TV or play a tablet. I think this is the biggest challenge for our family to have fun this summer!

How Wee Learn has 15 Things To Do Instead of TV

Frugal Fun for Boys and Girls has activities for your older children. It says boys, but I know that both boys and girls can enjoy some of these ideas.

How can you make your summer a success without the stress?

Planning summer activities that everyone will enjoy while keeping up with everything else that needs to get done is a challenge.

First, we need to remember what it was like to play! Remember our summers, where we aren’t focusing on our to do list and actually just enjoying the moment.

Then, we need to plan. No, I don’t mean to actually make out a full schedule like when your children are in school. To be successful though, you do need to have an idea of different activities you want to do and what supplies you need.

Now all that’s left is to get out and have some fun.

How has your summer started?  What are your children’s favorite summer activities? I would love to hear about them in the comments or on Facebook.

I sometimes link up at my favorite spots: Grace & Truth, Christian Blogger Linkup and Coffee for your heart,

  1. My children are older now, but when they were young, on Thursday nights we’d have “camp out” night on the living room floor during the summer. I would sleep on the couch since I learned that sleeping on the floor left me quite stiff the next day. lol
